Constitutional Amendment: Increasing funding to school districts
Would rewrite Article XI, Section 8 so the permanent school fund is managed as a perpetual resource that provides annual distributions to school districts while preserving its purchasing power, with the distribution policy set by law. A related law that takes effect only if the amendment passes would set yearly distributions at 4.5% of the fund's average value over the prior three years, instead of the fund's net interest and dividends.
What a vote means
- A yes vote
- A yes vote adopts the amendment. In Minnesota a constitutional amendment must receive yes votes from a majority of all voters casting ballots in the election; leaving the question blank has the same effect as a no vote.
- A no vote
- The state constitution stays as it is now. The fund would continue to distribute its net interest and dividends.
