Voting in Wisconsin

Registration deadline
Mail registrations must be sent at least 20 days before Election Day (by October 14, 2026); after that, register in person at your municipal clerk's office or in-person absentee site (with proof of address), or at your polling place on Election Day (same-day registration).
Early voting
In-person absentee (early) voting is set by each municipality within the two weeks before the election; in Madison it runs October 20-31, 2026. Check your municipal clerk for local hours.
ID at the polls
Wisconsin law requires voters to present a photo ID for their vote to count (for example a Wisconsin DOT-issued driver's license or ID card, U.S. passport, military ID, tribal ID, or certain student IDs). The ID does not need a current address and need not be REAL ID-compliant.
